Moodymann (KDJ, Mahogani Music / From Detroit)

Detroit, Michigan-based artist Kenny Dixon Jr. aka Moodymann is a force to be reckoned with when discussing contemporary electronic dance music and black music.
Kenny Dixon Jr. runs the KDJ label and is best known for his first album “Silent Introduction” on the Detroit techno label Planet E. He has also released albums “Mahogany Brown”, ‘Forevernevermore’, “Silence In The Secret Garden”, and “The Secret Garden” on the UK’s Peace Frog label. Silence In The Secret Garden“ and ”Black Mahogani” were released on Peace Frog in the UK. The sequel to “Black Mahogani”, “Black Mahogani II ~ the Pitch Black City Collection ~”, is a work that is reminiscent of the black jazz and spiritual jazz of Strata, Tribe, and Strata East, demonstrating his boundless talent. He has also released a previously unreleased album of J Dilla’s. He also contributed to the J Dilla Foundation by co-releasing J Dilla’s unreleased works with YANCEY MEDIA GROUP and Mahogani Music.
In 2014, he released his self-titled album Moodymann.
In 2016, he participated in !K7’s DJ mix series DJ-Kicks, the first official mix CD of his career.
In 2020, he released the album Taken Away.
In December of the same year, he appeared on Grand Theft Auto Online and is always in the news.

ミシガン州デトロイトを拠点に活動するアーティスト、MoodymannことKenny Dixon Jrは現代のエレクトロニックダンスミュージックやブラックミュージックを語る上で決して無視出来ない存在である。
レーベルKDJを主宰し、デトロイトテクノ名門Planet Eからのファーストアルバム『Silent Introduction』でより世に知られ、UKのPeace Frogからアルバム『Mahogany Brown』、『Forevernevermore』、『Silence In The Secret Garden』、『Black Mahogani』をリリース。『Black Mahogani』の続編『Black Mahogani Ⅱ ~ the Pitch Black City Collection ~』では、もはやStrataやTribe、Strata Eastといったブラックジャズ～スピリチュアルジャズをも想わす作品を発表し、その限りない才能を発揮している。また、J Dillaの未発表作をYANCEY MEDIA GROUPとMahogani Musicとで共同リリースし、J Dilla Foundationに貢献した。
2014年、セルフタイトルのアルバム『Moodymann』をリリース。
2016年、!K7のDJミックスシリーズ DJ-Kicksに参加、キャリア初のオフィシャルMix CDとなる。
2020年、アルバム『Taken Away』をリリース。
同年12月にはGrand Theft Auto Onlineに登場するなど常に話題が尽きない。
